Hut 8 was a section in the Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park. They were tasked with solving German naval Enigma messages. The section in HUT8 was led initially by Alan Turing.

I found this absolutely fascinating (love for history and data) as Alan Turing is responsible for creating technology which would break the unbreakable Enigma code. As a matter of fact, the team at Bletchley Park devised the world’s first programmable digital electronic computer. You might know this story from the movie The Imitation game with Benedict Cumberbatch. 

Data saves lives

Hut 8 is located in Bletchley Park, an English country house and estate in Bletchley, Milton Keynes. This became the principal centre of Allied code-breaking during the Second World War. The nature of the work at Bletchley remained secret until many years after the war. According to the official historian of British Intelligence, the “Ultra” intelligence produced at Bletchley shortened the war by two to four years, and without it the outcome of the war would have been uncertain.

Data is essential for every executive

In this age of digitisation, the use cases for data and technology are endless. In business and in society. I have been working as an executive in data-led companies for over 20 years and have learned that sophisticated technology is great. However the right data and data quality is key to unleash new business models, informing on pandemic response and helping in achieving net-zero climate goals. All in all, I decided to honour one of the first true data driven wins for society and name my company after the original Hut8.
